[ there are several parts to arashi narukami's day, because her roommate wouldn't forget her birthday and kaname has kept the date in his phone because birthdays are important. for all he might say "it'd be awkward since we're living together if i didn't do something", it's evident to HiMERU too that his little brother had wanted to make the day a little more special.
so it starts in the morning, with presents from both of the brothers, just guess who got her what, with a card simply signed her name in HiMERU's elegant script and decorated with butterflies sat on top, all three things waiting for her piqued curiosity on their living room table... and from the kitchen, the smell of a sweet breakfast awaits! along with the normal soft chatter of her two housemates, of course.
breakfast is a number of pancakes for them all, with narukami having the most and dressed with cloud eggs and fruits cut by a novice's hand into the cutest shapes someone could manage (some are better than other, when kaname was suggested using a cookie cutter by HiMERU for better shapes,) drizzled in an equally sweet syrup paired with a refreshingly light strawberry tea. it's an indulgence, and yes kaname will complain if she leaves anything behind... HiMERU's still taking his own and his brother's nutritional needs into account, so it really is mostly for her.
as it's narukami's birthday, kaname will calmly and definitely not look at her while he explains, they'll be doing whatever narukami wants. be it shopping, beauty routines, or-- whatever. just nothing too unreasonable.
(this is to make up for what's to come. she can, of course, take time away to see others, receive gifts from them, her time is not theirs alone -- and it'll be better for them to prepare the rest.)
lunch are delectable little cucumber sandwiches, and dinner is a special affair out rather than in -- because into the evening is cake time, with kaname putting her into a seat (do Not complain he is being as... gentlemanly as he can be!!!) while HiMERU fetches their last shared contribution to her birthday: a triple chocolate mousse cake with a candle placed in a strawberry in the center.
before narukami can be too thankful for the both of them, however, despite his brother's wishes kaname's still putting a cream pie into her face As Per Tradition she spoke of.
( she sort of expected something, to be honest. waking up feels like any other day though, missing home even if she doesn't entirely miss the responsibilities that come with it (in her memories), though her phone going off with the cheerful reminder that it's the third of march, her ~birthday~, tells her otherwise. she goes through her usual routine, picture-perfect arashi narukami ready for the day, and yet stepping out of her room and breathing in the sweet scent of breakfast still gives her pause.
she retreats back to her room just once to put on her new jewelry, exchanging her usual fare for the gifts thoughtfully picked out for her, and joins them with all the spirit and cheer that she always carries with her. not a single bit of breakfast goes to waste, though she lightly chides them that they should indulge a little, too, queen's orders—she'd never make them, she knows how particular HiMERU is about his diet (and, by extension, his brother's), and the laugh that pairs with such words is soft, light, playful.
yodaka is so cute— she can't help but think so listening to him explain the day's rough plan, her head resting in her hand while she watches him unable to look at her, and thinks this must have been his idea. not that her roommate wasn't capable of it (certainly he would've treated her the same), but yodaka is too embarrassed for this to have been his brother's idea. she still has tsukasa and leo to see, and she should probably stop by a few other places, too, but a day filled with shopping and treats and relaxing sounds absolutely perfect.
and it is a good day. she appreciates the lightness of lunch and the opportunity to go out for dinner, sometime between those two meals having procured her gift of perfume from tsukasa and wearing the scent she and her wonderful knights had chosen after hours and hours of hard work for cocktail perfume's new scent. she feels like a princess or a queen, so spoiled, so looked-after. sure, her knights at the start of the year had been hokuto and adonis, helping her along, but maybe that fortune of natsume's had staying power, still: maybe it meant today, too.
any excitement about her special and wonderful cake disappears the instant yodaka smashes a cream pie in her face, and she is very still, thinking about the tradition she'd recounted to him about an entirely different class. arashi decides that since it's her birthday, she's allowed to be a little childish, and she smashes what remains of the cream pie back into yodaka's face.
...it's a good birthday. it isn't like home (it isn't visiting her parents after celebrating at school, after celebrating at the office), but the day overall leaves her glowing and laughing and wishing, wishing, hoping, hoping, that there are more days like this, too, in the nest: simple ones, uninterrupted ones, the type of days she can hold in her heart without feeling guilty for their existence. )
